It is He who shall tread down our adversaries

Psalm 108 from the daily reading in the One Year Bible

God Praised and Supplicated to Give Victory.   A Song, a Psalm of David.

My heart is steadfast, O God;
I will sing, I will sing praises, even with my soul.
Awake, harp and lyre;
I will awaken the dawn!
I will give thanks to You, O Lord, among the peoples,
And I will sing praises to You among the nations.
For Your lovingkindness is great above the heavens,
And Your truth reaches to the skies.
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens,
And Your glory above all the earth.
That Your beloved may be delivered,
Save with Your right hand, and answer me!

God has spoken in His holiness:
“I will exult, I will portion out Shechem
And measure out the valley of Succoth.
“Gilead is Mine, Manasseh is Mine;
Ephraim also is the helmet of My head;
Judah is My scepter.
“Moab is My washbowl;
Over Edom I shall throw My shoe;
Over Philistia I will shout aloud.”

10 Who will bring me into the besieged city?
Who will lead me to Edom?
11 Have not You Yourself, O God, rejected us?
And will You not go forth with our armies, O God?
12 Oh give us help against the adversary,
For deliverance by man is in vain.
13 Through God we will do valiantly,
And it is He who shall tread down our adversaries.

The psalmist says:  My heart is steadfast, O God; I will sing, I will sing praises, even with my soul.  Awake, harp and lyre; I will awaken the dawn!  Dawn is defined as:  The first appearance of light in the sky before sunrise.  Surely one must rise up early if they are to awaken the dawn.   Whether before the sunrise or after, our day should begin with a steadfast heart that sings and praises God.  Dawn is also defined as:  The beginning of a phenomenon or period of time, especially one considered favorable.  In Luke 4:18-19 Jesus said:  The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,Because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor.He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives,And recovery of sight to the blind,To set free those who are oppressed, To proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.”   Regardless of the difficulties in the world today, we live in a time of the Lord’s favor. We live in the time between the law and the return of Christ in righteous judgment. We live in the favor of God’s grace. Our steadfast hearts should sing and praise God, the age of grace has already dawned, but we should awaken those who are slumbering.

The psalmist says:  I will give thanks to You, O Lord, among the peoples,
And I will sing praises to You among the nations. For Your lovingkindness is great above the heavens, And Your truth reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens, And Your glory above all the earth. That Your beloved may be delivered, Save with Your right hand, and answer me!
   The world looks to scientists and politicians for answers to the problems we are facing. We though must again be steadfast. Our focus must remain on God. In this time more than ever we should sing His praises among the nations. We should be those who declare His truth to the skies. In 2 Chronicles 7:13-14 God says:   “When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among My people,  if My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

The psalmist says:  Will You not go forth with our armies, O God?  Oh give us help against the adversary, For deliverance by man is in vain.  Through God we will do valiantly, And it is He who shall tread down our adversaries.  In this difficult time, in the midst of the stress and turmoil, what we need more than anything is peace. In John 14:27 Jesus says:   Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.”   In John 16:33 Jesus says:  These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”   Romans 8:31-39 says:  If God is for us, who is against us?  He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?  Who will bring a charge against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies; who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us. Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? …But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.  For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.    Romans 16:20 says:  The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.  Amen. He will fight our battles for us.

My heart is steadfast, O God; I will sing, I will sing praises, even with my soul.  Awake, harp and lyre; I will awaken the dawn! I will give thanks to You, O Lord, among the peoples, And I will sing praises to You among the nations. For Your lovingkindness is great above the heavens, And Your truth reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens, And Your glory above all the earth. That Your beloved may be delivered, Save with Your right hand, and answer me! Will You not go forth with our armies, O God?  Oh give us help against the adversary, For deliverance by man is in vain.  Through God we will do valiantly, And it is He who shall tread down our adversaries.  Amen. Thank You heavenly Father, Lord Jesus Christ and precious Holy Spirit. Amen.
