Happy Mother's day!
Because it is Mother’s day though I want to begin by looking briefly at how mother’s or all women are a part of the Revelation of Jesus Christ. The reality is that from Genesis to Revelation, all scripture is about revealing Christ and God’s plan for redemption through Him. So, where better to begin to understand the Revelation of Christ than in Genesis. Genesis 1:26-28 says: Then God said, “Let Us make mankind in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the livestock and over all the earth, and over every crawling thing that crawls on the earth.” So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Look at that: God said: Let Us make mankind in Our image, according to Our likeness. It is mankind, not men that He created in the image and likeness of God. He created them male and female. God was not and is not gender confused. Both male and female are created in His image and likeness. Remember what John 17:17 says: Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth. More than just being true, God’s word is truth. It is the plumbline by which everything is measured. If something does not line up with truth, it is a lie. Confusion comes when God’s word is disregarded and replaced with a lie. The root of gender confusion is believing the lie that we are not created intentionally by God.
Look what Jesus says in Matthew 23:37: “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who have been sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling.” Mark 10:6-9 says: From the beginning of creation, God created them male and female. For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother, and the two shall become one flesh; so they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, no person is to separate.” Jesus was speaking here about divorce, but we also can understand that it takes both male and female to fully reveal the image and likeness of God. Neither men nor women can fully reveal all of who God is.
Perhaps better than anyone or anything else can, mothers reveal some of God’s greatest attributes, Love, compassion, selflessness, patience, nurturing, devotion, long suffering, persistence and more. It is important that God spoke at creation and said: Let us make mankind in our image. It is in the image of God and of Christ who was with Him at creation that we were created.
Thank You mothers for your part of the Revelation of Jesus Christ to us and the world.
